Orlando Pedestrian Accident Lawyers See Dangerous Crosswalks

Best Orlando pedestrian accident lawyersOrlando pedestrian accident lawyers already knew that the shoe leather express can get you injured or killed in Central Florida. Nonetheless, a new report from Smart Growth America confirms that Orlando is the most dangerous city in America for pedestrians. The safety group’s Dangerous by Design reports have ranked Orlando as the top danger spot in four of their last five reports.

In fact, Florida, in general, is a risky place to get around on foot.  Six of the 10 most dangerous cities are in Florida.  Cities are ranked on a formula called a Pedestrian Danger Index (PDI). In summary, the index analyzes a city’s population in relation to the number of people who walk to work — and the number of pedestrian deaths.  With a score of 313, the Orlando area, including Kississimee, has the highest PDI in the country. Overall, between 2008 and 2017, car accidents killed 656 pedestrians in the area.

Other Florida cities rank as follows:

2. Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach 265.4,  212 deaths

3. Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville  245.0,  165 deaths

4. North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton  234.6,  194 deaths

5. Lakeland-Winter Haven 230.9,  162  deaths

6. Jacksonville 226.2.  41 deaths

Orlando Pedestrian Accident Lawyers Can Help Win Injury Settlements

Across the country, car accidents killed more than 49,000 pedestrians between 2008 and 2017. In Florida during that period, about 1,200 died in pedestrian accidents in Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties.

According to the Orlando Sentinal, Emiko Atherton, director of Smart Growth America’s National Complete Streets Coalition, Orlando has some fundamental problems. In particular, Atherton cited a lack of sidewalks, sidewalks too close to high-speed traffic, and sidewalks intersecting with numerous driveways.
