$6,000,000 – Drunk Driving / “Wrongful Death” – A woman who had so much to drink at a lodge that her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit ran a red light one February night, ending the life of a 20-year-old college student.
Martinez Manglardi filed a wrongful death suit against the 57-year-old drunk driver and the lodge that served her the drinks. It took a jury just 40 minutes to award the victim’s family $3 million for past suffering and $3 million for future suffering. The driver had previously been convicted of DUI manslaughter, and is currently serving a 10-year sentence.
The victim’s mother settled with the lodge prior to the trial.
