Orlando Personal Injury Lawyers Urge Awareness of First Responders

Orlando personal injury lawyersOrlando personal injury lawyers are urging drivers to pay attention to first responders in the wake of recent tragedy. Authorities say a car struck a Florida state trooper while he was investigating a car accident. According to reports, Trooper Mithil Patel was talking to a witness of a car crash on I-95 near Hobe Sound. Trooper Patel saw that a car was spinning out of control and was heading right for him. Patel had just pushed the witness out of the way when the car hit him.

The impact threw the officer into the air and he landed on the grass on the side of the road. Rescue personnel took him to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where doctors are treating him for serious injuries. In this case, the car that hit the officer was struck from behind by another vehicle, whose driver apparently wasn’t paying attention.

Now that holiday travel is upon us, law enforcement officials are reminding drivers of Florida’s “Move Over” law. The law says that drivers must move over one lane of traffic when first responders are present roadside. If there is only one lane of traffic in your direction, you are required to slow down to 20 MPH below the speed limit.
