Florida Injury Lawyers See Rise in ATV Accidents and Injuries

Florida Injury Lawyers Florida injury lawyers are calling for caution in using recreational vehicles in light of recent accident reports. In a recent study, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that off-road all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accidents claimed 15,250 lives from 1982 to 2017 in America. In Florida, ATV accidents killed more than 600 people during that period.

The investigative journalism site Fair Warning writes that one in five of the ATV fatalities were children. Fair Warning notes that accidents and injuries may actually be higher than cited in the report. That’s because, experts say, many outdoor recreational motorists use ROV’s, a different type of vehicle. That stands for Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle, according to the CPSC.

“Manufactures intended people to use ROV’s on terrain similar to that on which people use all-terrain vehicles (ATVs),” says the CPSC. ROVs have a steering wheel instead of a handlebar for steering, bench or bucket seats for the driver and passenger(s) instead of straddle seating, and foot controls for throttle and braking instead of levers located on the handlebar. In addition, ROVs have a rollover protective system (ROPS), restraint systems, and a maximum speed greater than 30 mph.”
