Officials say two construction workers died at the site JW Marriott hotel being built on Chelonia Parkway in Orange County. The site is next to the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The accident occurred as three laborers were getting ready to pour concrete at the seventh storey level when the scaffold on which they were standing gave way.
Two of the men fell nearly 80 feet and were pronounced dead at the scene. A third worker was able to hang on to the scaffolding and climb to safety. The survivor did not go to the hospital. The accident happened during construction of a 16-storey, 500 room hotel, Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort. The site is in an unincorporated part of Orange County and not inside Orlando city limits.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident.
