BRITAX CHILD SAFETY, INC; a manufacturer of Child Safety Seats has recalled 24 different model numbers of their products.
The reason stated on government documents is: “…seats were manufactured with a softer chest pad material that may be bitten or chewed into pieces by a child using the seat.” & ” If the child bites off a piece of the softer pad, it could be a choking hazard, resulting in injury or death .” (read more here )
This type of recall is not uncommon, multiple manufacturers of child safety seat have been obligated to recall certain models of their products. We have to assume that many manufacturers have a priority of cutting their costs to increase their profits, however when it comes to child or consumer safety there is a moral and legal obligation to produce safe products.
There are cases where the recalls are voluntarily initiated by the manufacturers, in other instances of faulty or dangerous product flaws it may be mandated and enforced by government agencies, and there have numerous situations where these court ordered mandates are issued only after an alarming number of victims have reported these flaws, many times with class action lawsuits originating from these tragic consequences.
Unfortunately many tragedies have occurred before a recall is finally mandated. The law is very clear on the liability of manufacturers of consumer products which are flawed or malfunction. The consumer is protected by law, when injured by a product, the right to claim justice must be pursued. Many consumers may not even be aware of a recall, and continue to use the product. Who knows how many products are out there being sold and used until a number of injuries occur before being recalled ?
